Annual Breast Cancer Walk

annual Breast Cancer Walk for Awareness.
Registration is at 3:45pm in the Spencer Hospital's
Grand Avenue Park.

The theme for this years walk is: "Words have the
power to bring healing and hope"

The walk is a 5k route that runs through the highly
visible area of downtown Spencer which helps create
higher awareness of tremendous support for breast
cancer dectection and treatment.  In case of inclement
weather, the walk will be held at Southpark Mall.

To kick off the season we will be presenting 
"The Addams Family" (a musical comedy)
In this original story, it's every father's nightmare, 
when Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of 
darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet,
smart young mand from a respectable family - a man her
parents have never met.  And if that weren't upsetting
enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him
not to tell her mother.  Now, Gomez Addams must do 
something he has never done before - keep a secret from
his beloved wife, Morticia.  Everything will change for
the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner
for Wednesday's 'normal' boyfriend and his parents.

Performances will be October 14-16 and October 20-23.
Evening performances at 7:30pm and Sunday Matinee

2nd Annual Zombiewalk

Spencer Mainstreet is gearing ups for the 2nd Annual
ZOMBIEWALK with proceeds benefitting the Shayla Bee
Fund. 

On Saturday, October 22 at 7pm, a 21plus Zombie
Crawl will be hosted by Spencer's Grand Avenue
Bars.  Zombies will take over downtown visiting
sponsoring bars until 10pm and ending a Legends
event center for live music provided by the
Pinheads, with the headline SAUL.  Between sets
there will be a Zombie contest and prizes given
away.  The 21plus walk makeup call begins at 4pm.

our walks will be up and down Grand Avenue, similar
to last year's Walk at the Whistle, Healthiest State Walk.

will be at the Y.

Beyond the health benefits of walking..social interaction
is good for you and there are prizes.

What are the prizes?
This is a year long initiative, sponsored by the Spencer

student employment on Thursday, October 27th
from 11:20am to 12:45pm in the student center.
The Iowa Lakes Corridor will be providing lunch for
business participants in this event.

Businesses that hire teenagers for part-time and
summer work are invited to attend.  A table will be
provided for each business and students will have
the opportunity to walk around the tables during
their lunch break.  Businesses should bring materials
for the table such as any information boards, handouts
and applications.

It is very important to RSVP before October 14 so we
can ensure table space and lunch availbility.

One of the most popular and successful plays of modern
times.  At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not 
long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the
world is madder.  In contrast to these delightful people 
are the unhappy Kirbys.  A tale of young love between
members of these two families and the zany interactions
of everybody around endears this story to audiences of all
kinds. 

Performance dates are:
December 2-4 and December 9-11.
Evening performances are at 7:30 and Sunday Matinee at 2pm.

This will be held on the 4th Tuesday of 
every month.  

Not a member of the YMCA?  
NO worries..this event is free for all members

No...its Iowa...so we understand walking outdoors
isn't ideal 12 months a year.  April thru September
our walks will be up and down Grand Avenue, similar
to last year's Walk at the Whistle, Healthiest State Walk.
January thru March and November and December we 
will be at the Y.

Northwest Iowa Planning & Development Commission
of Spencer, Iowa.

The session will cover the following topics:
* Properly administer Cardiopulminary Resuscitation
   (CPR) Techniques
* Practice the CPR procedure utilizing available manikins.
* Operate the Automated External Defibillator (AED)
   using the AED device.
* Administer the Heimlich Maneuver on others
   (conscious choking)
* Perform the Heimlich Maneuver on yourself in case of
   emergencies (pushing against a chair)
* Local examples of lives saved because of proactive
   strategies and advanced training.
* Being prepared as an employer--the process for getting
   your workplace trained and certified.
* Emergency numbers and procedures that need to be in
   place ahead of time.

SQUABBLES A/K/A YOUR HOUSE OR MINE

The final performance of the 57th Season of 
Spencer Community Theatre is a comedy called
"Squabbles" aka "Your Place or Mine"

This hilarious play pits a father in law against a 
mother in a comedic succession of 'squabbles'.
Jerry Sloan is a successful writer of advertising 
jingles married to an equally successful lawyer. 
Living with the happy couple is the not so happy 
Abe Dreyfus, Jerry's curmudgeon of a father in law.
Abe is a funny guy to the audience, not to Jerry.
The situation is exacerbated when Jerry's mother 
Mildred loses everything in a fire and needs a place
to stay.  Abe and Mildred can't stand each other.
The play is one hilarious confrontation after another.
until the heartwarming finale in which the oldsters
discover that, really, each is not so bad.

April 28 - 30 and May 5 - 7
Evening performances are at 7:30pm and
Sunday Matinee at 2pm.
