Chamber Celebrates "Spencer, A Surprising Place"The Annual Celebration of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce will take place on Thursday, October 25th from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Clay County Regional Events Center.
The theme this year is "Spencer, A Surpising Place," with presentations featuring little known, but very relevent, facts of Spencer. Those attending will get a first hand look at products originating in Spencer, new businesses, technology and much more. Featured presenters include the Mayor of Spencer, Spencer City Manager, Spencer Main Street Director, Clay County Fair CEO and others, all of whom will have special announcements for those in attendance.
Spencer Named One of the Safest Cities in IowaSafewise, a Home Security and Safety service, has named its 2018 list of the Safest Cities in Iowa and Spencer has made it to the Top 5 in the rankings.
The site identifies Iowa as having a crime rate 15% below the national average with fewer than four crimes reported for every 1000 people.
Among Iowa's safest cities, Spencer, Pella and LeMars reported ten or fewer violent crimes with Sioux Center having the state's lowest rate of both violent and property crime.

Spencer Named 10th Best Small Town in the U.S.A.Realtor.com has named Spencer as the 10th Best Small Town in the United States for 2018.
To make the list, the agency looked at over 500 communities with populations between 10,000 and 50,000 and used the following factors to come up with the rankings: Median Home Prices, Employment rates under 5%, Crime rates below the national average and households that spend no more than 28% of their annual income on housing costs. Many other factors were also weighed including quality of life, overall appearance of the community, education and much more.

Spencer Partners with Buxton to Assist in Retail DevelopmentSpencer, with more than 11,000 residents, has again partnered with Fort Worth-based Buxton to use analytics to strengthen our retail recruitment strategy. The City of Spencer recently approved the financing for the project as we attempt to better understand the buying and dining habits of our residents and trade area to be able to recruit the best retailers for the community.
