Spencer Named One of the Safest Cities in IowaSafewise, a Home Security and Safety service, has named its 2018 list of the Safest Cities in Iowa and Spencer has made it to the Top 5 in the rankings.
The site identifies Iowa as having a crime rate 15% below the national average with fewer than four crimes reported for every 1000 people.

Spencer Named 10th Best Small Town in the U.S.A.Realtor.com has named Spencer as the 10th Best Small Town in the United States for 2018.
To make the list, the agency looked at over 500 communities with populations between 10,000 and 50,000 and used the following factors to come up with the rankings: Median Home Prices, Employment rates under 5%, Crime rates below the national average and households that spend no more than 28% of their annual income on housing costs.
